     About Berea

Berea is located in the countryside of God’s beautiful creation, near the Whitewater State Park, north of St. Charles, MN. Organized in December of 1874, eleven families in SE MN, Elba Township, formed the charter membership of the congregation of the Berea Moravian church. Known first as the Wisba congregation, named after a village in Germany from which most of the settlers had come. The name “Berea” was adopted 24 years later in May of 1898.

Interesting Fact: Berea, the town is mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles as a place where the apostles Paul, Silas, and Timothy preached the Christian gospel. According to the Book of Acts, Chapter 17 verse 11, Paul of Tarsus and Silas preached at Berea, and the inhabitants "... received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.", and many of them believed.

Acts 17:10-15

As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men. When the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, they went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. The brothers immediately sent Paul to the coast, but Silas and Timothy stayed at Berea. The men who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.

Today, Veria , officially transliterated Veroia, historically also spelled Berea or Berœa, is a city in Central Macedonia, in northern Greece. It is a small city on the eastern side of the Vermio Mountains north of Mount Olympus.
